Your cooking friend and teacher Ivana Hi, my name is Ivana!I'm from Croatia, a small European Mediterranean country in Italian neighborhood. Since 2001 I have been living between Croatian capital Zagreb and Trogir, a beautiful small Medieval town by the sea in a region called Dalmatia.
For eight years people from all aroud the world have been coming to my cooking classes in Trogir where I promote traditional Mediterranean way of cooking. I also work as a personal chef. Idea of my cooking classes is to show people everyday life in a small Mediterranean town. I'm the author of two culinary travelogues. The most pleasant feelings I felt during my wanderings and tasting of Dalmatian meals are noted in my second culinary travelouge «My Dalmatia, tastes, savours, colors» that contains 36 nostalgic stories and 95 indigenous recipes. Dalmatian cuisine is a fusion of Italian, a little bit of Turkish, geographically Balkan peninsula and Estern European diet. The secret is in very, very plain, but also very, very tasteful recipes. Like Italians, we don't use a lot of spices. We love fresh herbs like rosemary, bay leaf and oregano. I'm happy to say that since 2013, Croatian Mediterranean diet is on the UNESCO Representative list. I'm also a historyan, food and travel columnist, screenwriter, artistic director of a silent film festival "Bokun festivala" in Trogir. |
